EDUCATION AND AWARENESS
For lasting and effective change, we must build the capacity of communities to sustainably manage their natural resources themselves. First they must understand the issues and possess the necessary knowledge and skills to make effective changes.
Togean Conservation Foundation would like to provide access to these skills through a range of actions, These include a schools environmental education programme, sustainable business skills workshops, English language training courses for access to eco-tourism opportunities, and information and skills support services for farmers and fishermen. We hope to provide employment and skills training for women, single parents and unemployed young people.
For tourism service providers, we aim to develop eco-standards and good practice guidelines as well as responsible visitor information, consultation, advice and training.
Additionally, through the year we run an ongoing series of awareness campaigns on environmental and humanitarian issues related to our objectives, centred around national and international awareness days.
“If you give me a fish, you have fed me for a day. If you teach me to fish, you have fed me until the sea is contaminated or the shoreline seized for development. But if you teach me to organise, then whatever the challenge, I can join together with my peers and we will fashion our own solution.”
